You still need to learn these, but you are not forced to deal with a lot of it right up front. This approach will side step may things that you absolutely need to learn-like classpath, package, compiler and JRE configuration, and etc. The IDE will have you set up and ready to run in moments so you can concentrate on your studies. When you first start out you need as few distractions as possible-especially in a school environment. I know there are 2 major camps on the philosophy of what a newbie should use for development and I am in the "give them an IDE and make it easy for them" camp. ThanksI would suggest an IDE to start out with, like NetBeans or one of the dozens of others used extensively. There is no option under Tools in order for me to compile any java program and I was wondering if anyone can help me out. Textpad was suggested to me in order to write and run java programs, but the only problem is that I cannot compile the program.
